I am on the sofa, in grimy sweat pants and a T-shirt I\u2019ve been wearing for three days straight. \u201cI\u2019ve been writing. Nutrition wasn\u2019t important. Productivity was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re living like a homeless person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t living like a homeless person,\u201d I say. \u201cI was living like a wolverine<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

She sticks her head in from the other room. \u201cWolverines don\u2019t live on Taco Bell and expired milk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nonfat milk. It takes longer to get chunky.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could have called me. I would have brought you supplies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe phone died. I was too busy to plug it in.\u201d<\/p>\n

She comes over to the sofa and leans over me, sniffing. \u201cYou smell like the crotch of David Lee Roth\u2019s spandex pants.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not,\u201d I say. I sniff one armpit, then the other. \u201cMaybe<\/em> Eddie Van Halen\u2019s. Maybe<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGet up,\u201d Bez says, tugging on my arm. \u201cWe\u2019re getting you into the shower.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t need a shower. I need sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShower first, sleep after. Oh my God<\/em>, how long have you been wearing this shirt? It\u2019s crunchy!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWriting isn\u2019t pretty,\u201d I say. \u201cEmbrace your inner wolverine. Embrace it!\u201d<\/p>\n

She puts her fingers into my hair and peers at it. \u201cWhat is this in your hair?\u201d She pulls something out. \u201cIs this part of a Funyun?\u201d<\/p>\n

I take it from her and pop it into my mouth. \u201cDon\u2019t judge me.\u201d<\/p>\n

She points in the direction of the bathroom. \u201cGo. Turn on the water and get in. I\u2019m braving the kitchen to find a scouring pad. And rubber gloves. And Lysol.\u201d<\/p>\n
